The rehabilitation of the Alentejo irrigation and public water supply canal, which spans 18 kilometers, is expected to be completed in April of next year.
A Sotecnisol Engenharia & Ambiente won one a public tender worth 4.1 million euros for the rehabilitation of the Alentejo irrigation and public water supply canal. The redevelopment will help optimize water resources in the region.
The project, which began last month and is expected to be completed in April of next year, includes the waterproofing of the main conduit over a length of 18 kilometers, which corresponds to a total project area of 180,000 square meters.

In a statement, the Lisbon-based group explains that the project will help increase the efficiency of the irrigation system, given that one will reduce water loss; improve the quality of the water supplied to farmers; promote environmental sustainability through the preservation of water resources; and boost the local economy by creating jobs in the region.
Founded in Lisbon in 1970, the The Sotecnisol Group operates in the construction, environment and energy, water, and agribusiness sectors. It comprises 24 companies, employs 650 people, and has annual revenue of 70 million euros, according to official data.
At the start of this year, the group began operations in France and opened a branch in Paris specializing in waterproofing and facade cladding. In addition to Portugal and France, it also operates in Spain—it has a presence in Madrid and Barcelona, but plans to expand its operations to other cities—as well as in Norway, Angola, Mozambique, and Algeria.
