On May 8, 1970, Sotecnisol was founded as Sociedade Técnica de Isolamentos by three partners: Dr. Sá Morais Castro, Mr. Medeiros, and Mr. Carvalho. At that time, waterproofing systems were very different from what they are today; flat roofs had residual water penetration, and thermal insulation was more limited and less versatile.

Despite its specialization in waterproofing, Sotecnisol began early on to be called upon to carry out building renovation projects, developing partnerships with various condominium management companies.

At that time, the need to renovate buildings—specifically to address issues such as deterioration of the exterior envelope, water infiltration, hydothermal discomfort, condensation, and cracking—became a major priority in Portugal’s construction industry.

Sotecnisol thus emerged as one of the leading companies in this field nationwide. It began by operating in the Lisbon area and later expanded to Porto, where it opened its first branch office.

In 1980, the first branch office opened in Porto.

In 1985, the Algarve branch office opened.

In 1990, the Coimbra branch was opened.

Between 1993 and 1995, the company diversified its business by creating four autonomous centers of expertise:

• Sotecnisol Materials
• Sotecnisol Water & Environment
• Sotecnisol Engineering

In 1997, Sá Morais Castro was founded to manage and revitalize the group's agricultural division.

In 1999, the company began its international expansion with the opening of TITSA in Spain.

In 2007, two new business areas were established:

• Sotecnisol Revestimentos
• Sotecnisol Energy

Sotecnisol has received its first award as an “SME Leader,” and starting this year, it will receive this distinction annually.

In 2010, Sonervest, an energy services company (ESE), was founded. It is the financial arm of the Sotecnisol Group, dedicated to promoting investment projects in the areas of renewable energy, energy efficiency, water, and the environment.

In 2011, the company began its international expansion in Africa by entering the Angolan market. And in 2013, it entered the Mozambican market.

In 2014, the equipment installation and maintenance business was spun off with the creation of KeepOn.

Since May 2016, Noteisol SGPS, owned by the Sá Morais Castro family, has held 100% of Sotecnisol’s capital.

Rebranding of the Sotecnisol brands, which reorganizes its operations into five major areas:

• Sotecnisol Power & Water
• Sotecnisol Revestimentos
• Obras360º

In 2018, the building renovation and new construction business was spun off with the creation of OUTPUT Engenharia.

In 2021, the temporary staffing agency 2WORK was launched.

In 2022, the Leira facility will open to serve all Sotecnisol Group businesses, and the Obras 360 stores and warehouses will open in Vila Nova de Gaia and Palmela.

In 2023, the acquisition of 51% from the electric mobility company Evolut.green and the launch of the Comunidades de Energia Renovável. A new branch was opened in Spain (Barcelona), the Sotecnisol Academy was established, Sotecnisol France was founded, and a majority stake in Waterproof was acquired.
