The 2025 harvest was the company's best ever, with 1,181 metric tons of olives harvested.
The 15-metric-ton increase compared to 2024 reflects the success of investments in optimizing processes in the olive groves.
Sá Morais Castro (SMC), a Sotecnisol Group company dedicated to agribusiness, has announced record results for its 2025 olive harvest. Across its 424 hectares of olive groves, part of a 650-hectare estate in the municipalities of Macedo de Cavaleiros and Mirandela, 1,181 tonnes of olives were harvested, an increase of 15 tonnes on the previous year. This harvest yielded 120 tonnes of olive oil classified as Extra Virgin.
The growth in the harvest is the result of ongoing investment in process improvement. Over the past year, the company has optimized its production methods and implemented more precise monitoring of its plots. The full-scale production of new olive groves—planted with varieties carefully selected for the local region—was also a decisive factor in increasing output, while ensuring the consistency and high quality of the final product.
This performance is particularly remarkable in a year marked by stark climatic contrasts. Production benefited from good rainfall early on, but was later challenged by a period of drought and heat waves. The fact that the harvest increased even under these adverse conditions highlights the resilience and effectiveness of SMC’s agricultural practices.
“This result from Sá Morais Castro reflects our strategic commitment to promoting our heritage. We have succeeded in combining best agricultural practices and technological innovation with a deep understanding of the traditions of Trás-os-Montes. Olive oil from Mirandela and Macedo de Cavaleiros is not just a product; it is a symbol of the quality and authenticity we want to promote. This success demonstrates that the Sotecnisol Group’s growth also involves honoring and investing in its roots, creating sustainable value for the future,” states José Luís Castro, CEO of the Sotecnisol Group.
The success of the 2025 campaign points to solid growth for SMC, in line with the Sotecnisol Group’s strategy of consolidation and expansion in its various markets.
