Sotecnisol has created a new business unit to reinforce its ambition to become a player a national leader in the energy transition and to increase green energy production. This is the Sotecnisol Renewable Energy Communities which was established with the mission of managing and promoting the sharing of energy generated through decentralized means, at a time when Portugal’s power grid operates on a centralized basis.
So, with all the know-how To create renewable energy communities (CER) and collective self-consumption (ACC), the Sotecnisol Group is establishing an entity aimed at substantially reducing costs and environmental impact and simplifying procedures for businesses and citizens who wish to produce, store, and share green energy. This company’s activities are expected to contribute to carbon neutrality in the coming years, with a considerable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
As a Self-Consumption Management Entity, the Sotecnisol Renewable Energy Communities has created a system of solutions that enables the decentralization of energy production, in which the producer—whether a citizen, a company, or a public agency—generates energy for its own consumption and to share on the grid at a competitive price.
“Currently, electricity from renewable sources accounts for 60% of consumption in Portugal, and our goal is to help increase that figure to 85% by 2030,” says José Luís Castro, CEO of the Sotecnisol Group. “Given the goal of meeting the targets set out in the 2030 National Energy and Climate Plan and achieving a high level of decarbonization, we intend to facilitate and simplify access to CERs, especially at a time when licensing remains a challenge,” he adds.
