Jos\u00e9 Lu\u00eds Castro took over as head of the Sotecnisol Group at just 26 years old, during one of the company\u2019s most difficult periods. He had to make tough decisions to ensure the business\u2019s survival. But he also had to learn to lead while allowing himself room to make mistakes.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

When he took over as leader of the Sotecnisol Group<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Jos\u00e9 Lu\u00eds Castro, the current CEO,<\/span> was only 26 years old and found himself facing a reality very different from what he had expected. The company, like the entire construction industry, was going through a turbulent period of crisis, with clients going bankrupt and constant financial pressure. Despite having the support of his predecessor\u2014his father\u2014Jos\u00e9 felt the weight of loneliness. \u201cI was very lonely and had to motivate myself and teach myself\u2014which is very difficult.\u201d<\/em>, he recalls. At the time, leadership wasn't a theoretical concept, but a matter of survival, with decisions that directly impacted dozens of families who depended on the company.<\/p>\r\n

The turnaround process required tough and swift measures. It involved cost and structural reductions, a thorough review of processes, and an almost obsessive focus on financial discipline. \u201cWe had to make significant staff cuts,\u201d,<\/em> He recalls that it \u201cwas a dramatic moment\u201d for him as a young leader. The focus was on protecting most of the jobs and ensuring that the company would return to growth. This commitment later led him to seek to rehire some of the people he had been forced to lay off, as part of a rebuilding effort that shaped the group\u2019s culture.<\/p>\r\n

Over the years, Sotecnisol has evolved into a diversified group with an international presence and operations in areas such as construction, energy, the environment, water, and agribusiness. From a company with approximately 6 million euros in revenue, it has grown into a group comprising dozens of companies and driven by a commitment to continuous growth. This evolution, the CEO assures us, was not merely structural. It was also personal.<\/p>\r\n

Jos\u00e9 Lu\u00eds Castro acknowledges that his leadership style had to change: \u201cI used to be very hard on people for their mistakes, and there were teams that didn\u2019t want to make decisions for fear of making a mistake.\u201d<\/em>. Recognizing this obstacle led him to rethink the way he managed teams and to create an environment where mistakes became part of the learning process. Today, he leads an organization that is more complex and demanding, but also better prepared for the future.<\/p>\r\n

Between the industrialization of construction, the focus on energy, and its positioning as\u00a0one-stop shop<\/i>, the Sotecnisol Group is striving to establish itself as a major player in a sector undergoing transformation. For Jos\u00e9 Lu\u00eds Castro, the challenge has been the same from the very beginning: making difficult decisions rationally, surrounding himself with the right people, and ensuring that the company is always moving forward. Especially because, as he points out, \u201cI can\u2019t be at the helm of a boat that\u2019s ready to drop anchor. I have to be going full steam ahead.\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\r\n
